Call for Expression of Interest in view of a direct call to scholars working permanently abroad for a position of Senior Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in Economic Policy (SECS P02) to work on topics related to Regional Studies
The University of Trento invites expressions of interest in view of a direct call to scholars working permanently abroad for a position of Senior Assistant Professor (tenure-track).
We seek candidates with significant accomplishments in interdisciplinary research whose main field falls within empirical analysis and policy of regional economics and economic geography.
The successful candidate for the position is expected to have a strong publication record and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively and a proven record of participation in research projects. Experience in economics and econometrics as applied to local development and/or interdisciplinary research projects is a plus. Experience in teaching in English is desirable but not mandatory. Knowledge of Italian is not a requirement. The University of Trento particularly welcomes applications from women candidates
Research
The University of Trento has been ranked in top positions by national rankings, and it is well positioned in international ones. This result is due, in particular, to the University’s success in research and to its ability to look towards Europe and the world.
In the QS World University Rankings 2020, the University of Trento continued to improve its position. Between 2017 and now, it climbed 52 places, reaching the 389th. Of the best Italian universities included in the ranking, Trento is ninth. The indicator that provided most points to the University is the one evaluating research outputs. Its visibility and quality of research, in terms of faculty citations, increased by 20% compared to 2019.
The Research Quality Assessment (VQR) conducted by Italian universities in the 2011-2014 term, released by ANVUR (“Italian Agency for the Evaluation of the University and Research”) at the end of December 2016, confirmed the University of Trento in top position among State universities, and sixth in the general ranking which also included institutions of higher learning and research institutes like Sant’Anna or the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa.

Department Teaching
The Department offers 9 master courses, 5 taught in English and 4 in Italian, and 3 Ph.D. courses, taught in English and designed for an international student audience. The Department also offers 3 undergraduate courses, including a recently approved track in Economics and Management taught in English.
The successful candidate will teach on subjects related to the Expression of Interest either in one of the undergraduate, master and Ph.D. courses.
Terms and Conditions
The direct call for Senior Assistant Professor position is intended to scholars who have been working permanently abroad in university teaching or research for at least three years, covering an equivalent academic position in foreign universities or research institutions.
Formally, the Senior Assistant Professor position is a "Ricercatore a Tempo Determinato tipo B)" as defined by the Italian law 240/2010.
The Senior Assistant Professor position is funded for 3 years. In the third year of the contract the Committee for Recruitment and Career Development will evaluate the Senior Assistant Professor, who has gained the National Scientific Qualification for the purposes of a call as Associate Professor, if the evaluation carried out is positive, the Senior Assistant Professor, at the expiry of the contract, becomes Associate Professor.
The Italian academic system associates each faculty position with a “settore concorsuale (SC)” (academic recruitment field) and a "settore scientifico disciplinare (SSD)" (scientific-disciplinary sector). The position at stake will be associated to the SC 13/A2 (Politica economica/ Political Economy and Economic Policy) and to the SSD SECS-P/02 (Politica economica/ Political Economy and Economic Policy).
The annual gross salary is 46,450. The employer pays social security charges. Researchers who have not been resident in Italy in the past two years may benefit of a special tax-exemption.
The position holder will have a 12,000 Euros maximum personal grant for research/travel expenses.
