Tutors

At the beginning of the first year, students are assigned two tutors (one from the University of Trento and one from the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano) who support the integration phase and ideally take over the supervision later.

Tutors are responsible for assessing the student's study and research abilities during the first year of the programme.

They also support the student in choosing advanced and specialization activities, as well as in identifying a supervisor and any co-supervisor(s).

Thesis supervisors and co-supervisors

The Doctoral Programme Committee assigns to each PhD student a supervisor and one or more co-supervisors (typically one from the University of Trento and one from the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano).

The supervisor and co-supervisor/s may be selected from outside the Doctoral Programme Committee, notwithstanding that at least one of them must be an academic.

The task of the supervisor and co-supervisor(s) is to monitor the candidate's research progress, supervise the writing of the thesis, and counsel him/her on the choice of an academic or professional career.
